The Democratic Party Needs To Change
I have long felt that the Democratic Party, especially the leadership, is completely out of touch with everyday Americans. This was always just a feeling of mine. But late last week, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) confirmed my suspicions, and not just for me. He signaled to the entire nation that not only was he, and other Democratic Senators, going to vote yes on the CR to fund the government. But he also signaled that the Democratic Party would not be a formidable opposition party to President Trump & Republicans, but rather a group of enablers not willing to fight.
This has been the critique of the Democratic Party for too long : that they are too old, weak, and unwilling to fight for what is truly right.
I mean but should we act surprised? This is the same party that up until that debacle of a presidential debate, stood in line and lied to us, telling us that Joe Biden was the best person to beat Donald Trump in November 2024. Of course they were going to crack. They are clearly not made for this moment.
So what do we do?
It’s simple - we primary every single Democrat who we feel isn’t up for the fight.
Let’s start with the fact that a large majority of elected officials who are in Congress in the Senate are too old or have been there for too long. This is not unique to just the Democrats. But we are the minority in both chambers, and something has to change or we’ll be stuck in this position for a long time.
Currently, almost 38% of our elected Democratic officials in Congress are over the age of 65. It’s even worse in the Senate where 22 of the 47 Democrats are over the age of 65, and 9 of them over the age of 75! The Gerontocracy in our party has hurt us. We can not have aging elected representatives who, in their hayday, would struggle to grab headlines and the attention of voters.
I mean just look at these numbers!
Look at that chart again.
It’s clear to me that Democrats struggled to win last election because the party is out of touch with voters. At ages when most people are attempting to retire from work, they are our only choice for office. A senior citizen usually isn’t the best for any job. It’s why many industries have mandatory retirement ages. It’s time for Senators & Congress to be added to the list.
It’s time for our government to have some also.
