Fascism Is Taking Over Our Country
No, this is hyperbole. Fascism is taking over our country. It is led by President Trump, and his Neo-Nazi squatter Elon Musk.
Let’s start with the basics. Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy. That is the definition, there is no disagreement there. That is what fascism is.
So when we break it down by characteristic, we will begin to see that this is the path we are heading down.
Dictatorial Leader
I mean, do I really even need to go into this one? Trump said during the campaign “I’d be a dictator for a day.” Well, anyone who knows anything, understands that dictators are dictators for a day. They hold onto power as long as they can. Republicans in Congress have even floated amending the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution that would allow Trump to run for a 3rd term.
Centralized Autocracy
This is where we currently are. Trump and Musk are shuttering government agencies, specificially the ones who provide oversight into Government overreach, and protect everyday citizens.
The Acting US Attorney, who is supposed to be the lead attorney for the US, posted yesterday that he was President Trump’s attorney. This is obviously a massive conflict of interest, and presents a constitution crisis. But does anyone expect the President or Supreme Court to step in? Yeah, me neither.
Militarism
This has started with the immigration and ICE raids that are happening in cities across the US. It will continue as protests, of any kind, pop up in opposition of President Trump & his radical right-wing, authoritarian agenda.
Forcible Suppression of Opposition
The current administration has already started this with the press. They are attempting to ban the Associated Press for refusing to refer to it as “The Gulf of America.” The Pentagon has already removed the press offices of NBC News, The New York Times, NPR, and Politico and replaced them with Breitbart, the New York Post, and Huffington Post. Combine this with Musk’s control of Twitter, the Trump administration is clearly trying to control the messaging, and essentially create a stream of propaganda.
He even recently approved the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), led by nutjob puppy murdering Kristy Noem, to spend $200million in ads that specifically thanked President Trump. What a great way to spend taxpayer money! I wonder when DOGE will get around to this?
Belief in a natural social hierachy
Anyone who was ever listened to Trump speak for the last number of years, knows that he is a racist. That he believes that minorities are lower than white people. He proposed banning Muslims from the US. He refers to countries from South America and Africa as “Shithole countries.” He appoints Nazis to work in his White House. In 2017, when a group of Nazi’s drove into a crowd in Charlottesville, killing 1, Trump said “there are good people on both sides.” Well, one side was chanting “Jews will not replace us” and protesting the removal of a Confederate Army statue. No, there are not good people on both sides. Anyone who protests the removal of confederate statues, supports the confederacy, or anything they stand for, is not a good person. I’m tired of pretending otherwise.
By the way, these are the same people who want to leave the statues up and remove mentions of slavery, the Tulsa race riots, and other blantantly racist trends and incidents from textbooks. It’s not about remembering history. It’s about fear, intimidation, and making these pathetic people feel better about their miserable lives.
Subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation
I mean, 50% of the country that voted in 2024, chose to elect a man who said during the campaign he’d cut jobs, social benefits, and provide tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. They thought it was a joke. Well, now they are finding out. But it’s also a cult so they’ll spin it however they need to justify it in their own heads
Strong regimentation of society and economy
If you read the above bullet points, and still don’t see where this is going, I wish I was as ignorant as you. But look at what’s happening with the potential trade wars with Canada, Mexico, and China due to Trump’s ridiculous talk of imposing tariffs.
There are millions of Americans who are scared. Who are going to have their rights and freedoms taken away under this wannabe dictator.
The real question for Democrats, and for the country, is how do we fight this? There’s no one “magic bullet.” Nothing, by itself, is going to be the one thing that works. It’s going to be hard work, a lot of work, but one that our country needs, especially if we want it to survive. We need people who wish to stand up to this wannabe dictator to:
Get involved locally - attend town hall meetings, volunteer, talk to people in your neighborhood
Show up - to vote at every chance you can, at protests, rallies, marches, etc.
Be vocal - Make sure your local representatives hear from you. Share your stories on social media, amplify your voice for the millions that are going through similar things you are going through
Run For Office - if you think you can make a difference, as most of us do, run for something. Be strong in your values and convictions. Later in life, you’ll be glad that you tried to do what you could, and stand up to fascism, as opposed to wondering what could’ve happened if you never ran or got involved. I plan on being loud, vocal, and very involved the next 4 years to combat Trump and his fascism. I hope that I’m not the only one.
